Action At a Distance

(Mars)

(aka: Aries, Ra, Marduk and Ninurta, Lahmu)

Action is doing, being, acting, moving, and so forth, all within the constraints and limits of so-called physical laws.  These physical laws are part and parcel of what is allowed and what is not allowed.  More accurately, the laws are about the Paradigms in which we live, and which we may choose to limit our actions.

I say “may choose”, in that there exists the alternatives of Determinism and Free Will.  These are not, however, necessarily exclusive or mutually incompatible alternatives.  They may, in fact, exist simultaneously, but at different levels.  In other words, Determinism may rule the physics, while Free Will may rule the metaphysics.  [Metaphysics being simply: “beyond physics”.]

If the universe is a machine, then in clockwork fashion everything pretty much happens on schedule and as predicted.  From Parmenides (circa 450 B.C.E.), matter, energy and the physical laws are eternal, unchanging, immutable. “Eternal matter moves in accordance with eternal laws.”  The infinite universe is contained in the past.  (And it’s still funny.)

Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle at the Quantum Physics level pretty well wiped out such determinism, while at the classical level, an simple extension of Classical Physics to Connective Physics added control (i.e., Free Will) under the aegis of The Fifth Element.  On the one hand, determinism continues to provide a security blanket of Causality for those choosing to accept such boundaries, but in the realms of the quantum -- or the classical radical change of pace or subtle energies venues -- Free Will reigns!  Yea!

Curiously, the New Age proclamation of “going with the flow” is akin to determinism, or perhaps more accurately, the choice of accepting determinism as the limiting factor.  In the same manner, Free Will is akin to Resistance -- i.e., resisting the flow.  Perhaps, a curious interpretation worth investigating.

There has been a tendency in many circles to assume that resisting the flow is not a good thing, while allowing one’s destiny to unfold without conscious choice is the preferred route.  Such a view maintains the concept of duality, of good and evil, of right and wrong.  It has been said that, “I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I the Lord do all these things.” [1]  This, according to one man -- a prophet of some repute -- is nevertheless a product of the author’s times.

The radical change of pace is that there is only good.  There is only Heaven.  Even Hades is construed as “the place from which all good things come.”  Accordingly, determinism in physics and free will as a metaphysical resistance to the determinism are both viable concepts.

The fascinating part is that movement often requires resistance.  To walk, run, paddle a canoe, use a propeller to fly, change directions, or in some cases, even grow -- all these require resistance.  Something to push against is inevitably a part of movement, even when what is pushed against is the Earth itself or its envelope of sky, water, and ground.  The only means of avoiding this direct resistance mode is to use reaction mass, i.e., throw something in the opposite direction.

An excellent example of reaction mass is the explosive remnants of a rocket, where semi-controlled explosions force mass to exit very fast in the direction opposite to that of one’s desired travel.  [The Law of the Conservation of Momentum requires (in the rocket case) that the relatively low reaction mass exit have very high speeds in order to balance the higher mass of the rocket ship and its slower speed in the opposite direction.]  This is action and reaction, aka Newton’s Third Law of Mechanics.

If the Earth, and other matter which we use to push against, are also construed as reaction mass, then movement (in all of its connotations) requires reaction mass, also known as resistance.  Meanwhile, Free Will is fundamental to such resistance.  Verrrrrry interesting!

The even better news is that the physics of this website includes in its scope what amounts to negative resistance.  Free Will, control, and choice, are all part and parcel of the mathematics which provide the basis of Connective Physics.  As the logical extension of Classical Physics, The Fifth Element yields a term similar in form to the classical resistance term (mechanics and/or electromagnetics), but with an opposite sign -- i.e., negative resistance.  Furthermore, the mathematics includes the result of energy and power being unlimited, connected, and universal!  All that is required is a radical change of pace.  [In the quantum reality, this is akin to an open end of the universe being accessed by the human mind or the physics of uncertainty.]

Connective physics is multi-faceted, including Inertial Propulsion (propulsion without reach mass!) Superconductivity, Zero-Point Energy, Sonoluminescence, Wave-Particle Duality, Quantum Knowing, Superstrings, and Consciousness in its range of topics.  Much of this is construed to be mainstream physics, but enough innovations are included to extend the physics into fascinating new realms.  Even the geological science of evolution does not remain unscathed as Creationism (which might be better described as Interventionism, or for the more dramatically inclined, Catastrophism) is easily and readily included in the evolving, extended science of evolution.

The choice and control of The Fifth Element -- the new physics of unlimited connection -- is accessed by what can best be described as a radical change of pace.  It is the pivoting, the sudden impulse in another direction, the abrupt reversal of action that provides the connecting link with the resources of the universe.  A quick change of one’s mind!  It is Mach’s Principle connecting the inertial masses of the universe, or Hal Puthoff’s recognition of all electrical charges in the universe being ultimately connected. [2]

Determinism is inevitably connected to Causality, i.e., cause and effect. Causality is a principle of nature which requires that nothing happens without a cause.  Extremely important from the reductionist physicist’s point of view is that:  If there is no causality, then there is no clear distinction anymore between the Natural and the Supernatural.” [3]  Oops.  Suddenly physics and metaphysics are interwoven.  They are connected.  But then again, everything in the universe is connected.  Duh.

Finally, in comparing the influence of Determinism and Free Will, one might consider the possibility of the relative amounts being variable over the eons.  That is, historical cycles suggest one alternative is more notable at some times than at others.  There is even the suggestion of an experiment by Paatah in which we are coming to the end of a great cycle -- currently scheduled for roughly 2012 A.D. -- and in order to bring everything to completion, Determinism may (temporarily) need be given precedence over Free Will.  The final remaining choice may be that we can be taken kicking and screaming to the next level, or simply choose the scenic route filled with joy, delights and strange entertainment.
