Suicide and Homicide Rates

An integral part of the Report on Mental Health by the Surgeon General in 1999, is the statistics on suicide and homicide rates. Below is a table of suicide and homicide rates by age group from 1979 through 1995. Data is available on these rates which go back a long way, but the below table should be sufficient to see any trends.

The data is specific to the United States (although it is available by regions in the U.S. and Canada). The source of the data is the U. S. Bureau of the Census -- who apparently are not only into counting live people, but dead ones as well. The units given are rates per 100,000 age-specific populations.
